The contest will open on October 14th 2024, and will be open to submissions from students 3rd-12th grade for the Art Contest and students 4th-12th grade for the Poetry Contest. The contest will remain open until March 14th 2025. All contest entries must be submitted by that point so that the winners can be selected and notified before the end of the school year.

The Durango Cowboy Gathering holds an annual art and poetry contest for students in the 9R School District. Students from 3rd grade through High School are encouraged and invited to participate. Students are able to apply through their school art or language art class.

Poetry contest winners are invited to perform their poem at our evening performances held in October, 2025. Winning artwork is hung at various locations in Durango the month of September and early October. Winning students receive a small stipend for their work.
